India is perceived as “the land of mysteries and myth. Mark Twain was moved by the magic of India and described India to be the land of dreams, romance, poverty, and splendor. The complexity and variety is the spice of our India. It is our hallmark, which attracts people from all over the world to visit India and its awesome treasure of arts, culture. India is replete with intimate & traditional art, from ancient historical architecture to vignette statues and monuments; it’s like the storehouse of history in front of us. India is the land as diverse as it can get, but still there is an underlying unity that binds us coming from the various heritages, culture and exemplary tourist spots that India offers to anyone coming to it.
India is not the superpower of the world, though it’s slowly becoming one of the world’s superpowers due to its growth and improvement in various fields. It’s the world’s twelfth largest economy and third, by purchasing power. Though it may have a little bit of poverty, illiteracy etc. in some places, its standard of living is projected to rise sharply within the next decades. India is without doubt, one of the largest growing economies of the world, in addition to its global and regional clout.
India is a land of travelers, a haven of tourism delights and walk into a civilization. Tourists arrive to the country for the cultural exuberance, wealth of sights, the diversity of the terrain and something very special, that mystery, that attraction that India can only offer. Teeming with billions of people with a million daily concerns thriving on diversity, India is really an interesting place to be in. A person traveling to India must have a free mind and must be ready to face problems along the way. From the smoky mangroves of the Sunderbans to the steaming Thar Desert to the scintillating marvel villages of Khajuraho and Hampi to the heights of the Himalayas & blue waters of the Andamans, India has everything. Touring India delights, frustrates, is demanding but at the end of the day, you will find its rewarding and will fill you with a sense of satisfaction and delight. The crowds at Pushkar, pushy mendicants at haridwar, the overwhelming mass of people in Benares, it can get frustrating as well, but the scenes of India will boggle your mind. This is also the home of the wonder of the world- Taj Mahal. It signifies Indian hope, heritage and above all its culture and love. The breezy beaches, temple trails, the tallest mountains and the sky blue waters, and India is the haven of tourism for that.
Indian architecture and culture is an epitome of the previous century. Indian culture is indicated by a high level degree of syncretism & cultural pluralism. It’s a huge tapestry of production of the subcontinent of India and represents a multitude of history and expressions over time and space. Qutub Minar, Red Fort etc. are creations of this era. The British rule also had its significance as it also contributed to the Indian art, architecture and history. The khajuraho, Mathura sandstones, the Ellora temples are proof of India’s astonishing sense and tradition of art & architecture.
Historically speaking, India is rich in history and is home to some of the greatest persons to have walked on this earth. Aryabhata, one of the first mathematician-astronomers of the classical age hailed from India. He was a great compendium of astronomy & math that contributed immensely to the world by his work. Besides him, Rabindranath Tagore, Asia’s first Nobel Laureate was famous throughout the world for his genius in arts and fine culture. Other greats from India were Mahatma Gandhi, Kalidasa, Bankim Chandra, Micheal Madhusudan Dutt and a host of other names who were and still are the jewels of India who we can still proud of. Indian democracy is still very much alive and it still holds a diverse range of people with many sects living together in harmony, which signifies India’s true unity in diversity. Its no wonder, that India is the largest democracy in the world.
“Yoga” is also another creation of India. It’s a group of ancient and spiritual practices originating in India. It’s been defined as disciplines of meditation, which are believed to lead into spiritual experience and profound insight into the nature of existence. Going by traditional beliefs, yoga is also believed to be the path to salvation offered by Hinduism. Yoga is really a way of liberation from all worldly suffering and cycle of birth and death, when there is a cessation of thought and an expression of blissful reunion with the Supreme Brahman. So, Yoga is popular all over the world and is used by most people who go through stressful lives, which at the moment will be quite large in number.
Cinema has become the biggest attraction in the world of amusement. It has become a craze with thousands of people having their matinee idols. The Indian cinema not only entertains us, but educates us as well. The documents offer a vivid and factual version of the things that are actually are or were. But it also is used nowadays to connecting to the mass of the people. Films like Lagaan, Rand de basanti, Swades etc. have helped us to connect with the audience which is the common people and empowered the youth by raising social and political issues and problems plaguing our nation. A kid now is braver than before which helps him take a stand in life, which is essential nowadays, and also for the future. The various Film Festivals happening all over the globe depicting Indian Cinema makes the world aware of the power of Indian cinema, makes us proud as a nation. The Indian film industry, Bollywood is a huge industry that has people coming to watch its films and stars that have conquered the world.
So, if you are an outsider to India or an NRI, you must not miss the chance of exploring and witness the unimaginable wealth of history, culture, architecture and beauty of nature.
